Homecoming spirit to hit Dayton High School next week

DAYTON–Dayton-Waitsburg Athletic Combine is gearing up for a celebratory Homecoming Week, October 14-19, starting with spirit-filled activities and ending with the Homecoming Dance.

All the fun starts Tuesday, October 15 when Dayton-Waitsburg Volleyball hosts DeSales in the Dayton Gym. Junior Varsity starts off at 5 p.m., followed by varsity at 6 p.m.

It will be Pink Night at the DHS Gym, and Stud Volleyball will follow the DW Volleyball varsity match.

Wednesday, October 16 will be Field Night, starting at 7 p.m., at the Dayton High School Track and football field. There will be plenty of fun planned, and rumor has it deputies from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand to compete in some activities with high-school students.

One of Homecoming’s favorites will be the Lip Sync competition, which will be at 2:05 p.m. in the Dayton High School Auditorium on Thursday, October 17.


The volleyball team will take on Columbia-Burbank at 6 p.m. October 17, in the DHS gym. Jayvees start off with their match at 5 p.m.

The day of the Homecoming Game against Kittitas High School begins with a 9:15 a.m. pep assembly that will start at the High School and, with marching band in the lead, parade on 3rd Street to the Columbia County Courthouse for games and contests on the Courthouse Lawn. The Dayton High/Middle School Band, under the direction of Scott Sumner, will be providing spirited musical accompaniment.

Dayton-Waitsburg Valley Football takes the field at Waitsburg against Columbia-Burbank with kickoff of the 2019 Homecoming Game at 7 p.m.


There will be Homecoming Courts and Royalty representing both high schools presented during halftime of the Homecoming Game, according to Dayton A.S.B. President Kira Boggs. D.H.S.’s Homecoming King and Queen will be announced at halftime.

The Homecoming Dance will be held at the Columbia County Fairgrounds Pavilion on Saturday, October 19. The dance will be from 9 p.m. until midnight, with the announcement and coronation of Homecoming kings and queens at 10 p.m.
