What's New at School?

Thanksgiving Break

December 5, 2019

DAYTON-Thanksgiving break has treated us all very well this year. The high schoolers had a long break from school to enjoy Thanksgiving, preparations for the upcoming basketball season, and a wonderful Christmas kickoff.

The annual Dayton Christmas Kickoff parade and event activities took place on Main Street on Friday. Local DHS students Jordyn Helm and Alicia Apodaca were elected as two of the 2019-2020 Columbia County Fair Hostesses, and took their first leap of duty in the Kickoff parade. Posing beautifully for the crowd as they strolled down Main Street on the float. The Dayton FFA club, has been spending lots of time trimming and bundling branches to create handmade Christmas Wreaths, as they do every year. The group sold many of their beautiful wreaths during the Christmas Kickoff festivities.

the boys and girls Dayton-Waitsburg Basketball teams shared the Dayton gym for a short practice, and scrimmage for all four teams on Saturday. The Junior Varsity, and Varsity squads of both teams were split to scrimmage against each other, similar to a real game experience. Members of the community were personally invited by each individual player to watch them as they get ready to jump into the new season.

The boys and girls of DW Basketball are hopeful to boost community involvement in their efforts, and encourage members of the community to come watch their games. The support of their community is important, and highly appreciated by the athletes.
