The Dayton-Waitsburg Wolfpack Dilemma

December 19, 2019

DAYTON-The decisions of the Dayton-Waitsburg sports combine program are still under way. A board meeting regarding the continuation of the combine was held last week. Many important factors were discussed, as there has been difficulty with transportation, and playing time among the middle schoolers.

Students and community members in favor of the combine were asked to make an appearance to show their support for the program. According to those who attended the meeting, it seems the Dayton-Waitsburg sports combine will continue on for many years to come. This program includes all season sports, in both the middle and high schools.

Another big issue with the combine, is the detail of our team mascot. Although Waitsburg High School has given up their proud Cardinal mascot due to a sports combination with Prescott in the past, Dayton High School has been known as the home of the Bulldogs from the beginning, and that has never changed.

The Dayton Alumni and students are reluctant to let go of their beloved Bulldog name. At the meeting, the majority of attendees seemed to agree on the “DW Wolfpack”, making our combined mascot a wolf. This suggestion is heavily agreed upon, and seems likely to become the future face of Dayton-Waitsburg Sports, although no decisions are final.

The Dayton High School class of 2021 is in charge of putting on Prom this spring, as the Junior classes always have done in the past. As a fundraiser, the Juniors are now selling raffle tickets during the high school basketball games in Dayton. There are three gift baskets which you can enter to win, the Weinhard Basket, the Bluewood Basket, and the Christmas Basket. Each basket includes a variety of goodies, perfect for the holiday season. Raffle tickets are on sale at every DW Basketball game in Dayton until December 21, night of the drawing.
