DAYTON-One Columbia County resident who recently returned from an overseas trip has tested positive for COVID-19.

The individual is over 60 and tested positive on March 11, according to the Columbia County Public Health Department. This individual contracted the virus from a trip overseas and has had limited contact with the public, the Health Department indicated, and has visited no retail or community events since returning to Columbia County. The individual and others who have been in contact with the traveler are reported to have been under quarantine since returning to the area.

The threat to our community is low from this incident, according to the Health Department.

The Columbia County Commissioners, together with the County Health Department announced the confirmed case of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in our community Wednesday afternoon, March 11.

Two people are being quarantined at home, one in Garfield County and one in Snohomish County.

The Health Department emphasized that the risk to the community is considered low at this time. People are encouraged to continue to take common-sense precautions which include:

• Frequent and thorough and washing

• Using 60% alcohol based hand sanitizer

• Avoiding those who are sick

• Avoiding touching your face

• Cleaning and sanitizing surfaces

• Keeping healthy by eating well and getting enough sleep

• Staying informed from the Washington State Department of Health for updates and the Center of Disease Control travel website for any travel advisories

People are asked to stay home from work, school and activities when sick, even if you are experiencing mild symptoms. Those who are sick and wish to seek medical care are asked to call ahead to make appointments so precautions can be taken to prevent possible exposure to others. For emergencies, call 911.
