During the lapse for the start of the School Lunch Program, the General Store provided lunches for kids. Emylee Williams, right, and Karen Lockard, of The General Store, left, take a moment to pose for a quick picture before Emylee enjoys her delicious lunch.

DAYTON-Jay Takhar, owner of The General Stor, and Karen Lockard, of The General Store, reported to have served 17 children this past week until the school lunch program got up and running. Since Governor Inslee mandated school closures and then laid out proclamations for social distancing resulting is some restaurants and businesses limiting services, hours or even closing, Karen reported, "Our business has not seen a decrease at all...and Jay wants to repay the community in anyway to thank them for their continued support. It takes a community that stands together and helps each other out during hard times. He just wanted to make sure that the kids who relied on those meals were still able to get something to eat. Jay said he will stay open and serve the community in anyway that he is allowed to do."
