DAYTON–A 30-year-old Dayton Man is being held in the Columbia County Jail on two assault charges stemming from an April 26 incident in a parking lot next to Cameron Court at the west end of town.

Reid N. Ngiraswei, 110 S. Pine Street, was arrested by Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies after authorities were called to the parking lot of The Club where they found Kristopher Hogoboom, age and address information unavailable, lying on the ground, bleeding from apparent stab wounds.

Ngiraswei is being charged with one count of first-degree assault, a Class A felony, and one count of fourth-degree assault, a gross misdemeanor. Charges were filed in Columbia County Superior Court on April 27 by Prosecuting Attorney C. Dale Slack. Ngiraswei was set to be arraigned May 6.

According to the police report, sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a person needing help in the parking lot of The Club, near the Cameron Court entrance. The first deputy on the scene assisted Felicia Hogoboom, age and address unavailable, administer bandages to Mr. Hogoboom’s stab wounds.

Hogoboom was transported to Dayton General Hospital then flown to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland because of the severe nature of wounds. He received stab wounds to the top and side of his chest and a two- to three-inch cut on his left arm, the report indicated.

Mr. Hogoboom had been helping his wife Felicia, who had been suffering from an asthma attack while on a walk. While helping his wife get to her feet, a person later identified as Ngiraswei approached the couple and attacked Mr. Hogoboom. The suspect was unknown to the victim, who stated he had no idea why he was attacked, according to the report.

Another deputy arriving on scene had taken Ngiraswei into custody. A witness told deputies that she saw Ngiraswei walking away from the area and that he was allegedly saying he had stabbed someone.

A resident of Cameron Court apparently followed Ngiraswei following the attack.

Sheriff Joe Helm interviewed the suspect, and Ngiraswei stated that he had been in a fight by The Club. He was armed with a knife as he approached a man and woman that he thought were fighting with each other. According to Helm, the suspect admitted to stabbing Kristopher Hogoboom in the abdomen with the knife he turned over to the arresting deputy.

During the altercation, the police report indicated, Mrs. Hogoboom attempted to pull Ngiraswei off of her husband, and he allegedly punched her in the side of her face.
