Led by Sheriff Joe Helm, graduating members of the Dayton High School Class of 2020 "process" one final time down 3rd Street to the hallowed halls of Pietrzycky High last Saturday to take part in outdoor commencement exercise in sunny weather.

DAYTON–Fifteen members of the Dayton High School Class of 2020 completed their senior year of high school with a COVID-19-modified graduation ceremony here Saturday, June 6.

Principal Kristina Brown opened the proceedings by expressing how proud the teaching staff and school administration are of the graduates, who have not been in school since March 17 yet have continued with distance learning.

Principal Brown also pointed out the procedures commencement would follow as the planning and execution of the commencement exercises was fluid in its structure up until the final days, and she reminded graduates to practice physical distancing.

The Star Spangled Banner was played by Band Director Scott Sumner on violin.

Following commencement addresses by Valedictorian Kylee Laughlin and Salutatorian Kira Boggs, Brown introduced the five honor graduates: Laughlin, Boggs, McKenzie Renee Dobbs, Lillian Marie Patterson and Tayven James Seney.

Superintendent Doug Johnson presented the class to School Board Chairwoman Katie Leid as having met the requirements for graduation. This was Johnson's final graduation as he will retire at the end of June.
