Port of Columbia seeks to fill Board vacancy

DAYTON– The Port of Columbia is seeking to immediately fill a Board vacancy which has occurred as a result of Dan Aschenbrenner resigning his position as Port of Columbia Commissioner District 1. He is leaving as a result of moving out of the district with his wife, Sarah.

Aschenbrenner was elected to his position last November. The replacement would fulfill the remainder of the term with the option to run for election in November 2021.

Milligan, who was at his first board meeting this month held via Zoom, said to Aschenbrenner, “Well Dan, I’d say that I’d miss you but I haven’t even met you in the official capacity other than over the screen here.”

Interested persons residing in District 1 should submit a letter of interest and resume to Jennie Dickinson, Port of Columbia, 1 Port Way, Dayton, WA 99328 or to [email protected]. by July 31.

The two remaining commissioners, Earle Marvin and newly selected Sean Milligan of District 3 will interview candidates for the replacement in early August.


Port Director Jennie Dickinson reported of the various Port businesses, “My little businesses are all hanging in there.” New business is developing as well. New users are in process for using the Blue Mountain kitchen. Dickinson is also still trying to see about getting the vendors who were using the VS Mainstreet space being able to continue to sell their goods.

Additionally, with the recent closing of the meat processing Main Street business, she is seeking out if there is interest in another business to open to offer the service for the Dayton community.


New intern, Keegan Milsten has been helping optimize the Port of Columbia website and other Port business websites. He also has been working as an intermediary for the state small business grants to local businesses. He has kept businesses updated about the progress of the grants. Many received checks July 6.
