Letters to the Editor

July 23, 2020

To the Editor,

I am writing this letter of endorsement for Representative Bill Jenkin’s run for State Senator in the 16th District.

As a Representative in the Washington State legislature, Bill has been one of the most successful legislators at getting legislation passed. I learned this fact as I was being educated on the legislative process, which showed me what a difficult and convoluted process it can be. That Bill was able to move legislation through the process was in itself impressive, but that he did it while in the minority party made it even more so. This is the kind of legislator our district needs representing us in the State Senate.

On my trips to Olympia to represent Columbia County’s interest, I would take the opportunity to visit Representative Jenkin’s office, where he would always find time to meet with me. On one occasion he actively sought me out, to ask how he could help the County and specifically the town of Starbuck, after the flooding this past Spring. Bill was successful in this regard and additional funding was found, helping out an often-overlooked municipality in our community.

Bill Jenkin is a small businessman who believes in protecting individual rights and private property, and would not let the power of government be abused for private gain or personal profit. Bill would work to prevent large outside interests from using the legislative process to force through laws limiting local control over local resources or create unfair advantage for themselves in the marketplace.

In these uncertain times, Bill Jenkin is a proud American and a true Patriot we can count on and who deserves our support. Please join me in voting for him for State Senator in the 16th District.

Sincerely,

Charles Amerein

Commissioner, Columbia County District 3

To the Editor:

I read with interest the July 16, 2020 edition of The Dayton Chronicle. On page three and continuing to pages five and seven are as reported, “Two vie for Senate seat.”

I hope this was just an oversight, but dear editor, there are three candidates vying for the Senate seat in Washington’s 16th District which includes Columbia, Walla Walla and most of southern Benton County and Pasco.

Please include information about the only female and democratic candidate running for the 16th Senate seat, Danielle Garbe Reser.

I appreciate the effort made by the Dayton Chronicle staff and reporters. Of interest is a Letter to the Editor in the most recent edition which supports the candidacy of Ms. Garbe Reser.

I trust this was a simple oversight and excluding the only woman and democrat in this competitive race was just that.

If a voter is looking for additional information about Ms. Garbe Reser, please visit her website at: https://garberreser.com. Don’t forget to vote on August 4, 2020!

To the editor,

I support Bill Jenkin for 16th District Senator. Bill is a principled leader with a proven track record of serving the 16th District well. He has integrity, a strong work ethic, and a breadth of knowledge well suited to public service.

As a 16th District Representative, Bill is well versed in the issues we face. His years of experience as a small-business owner gave Bill a foundation in fiscal responsibility–an important trait as Washington finds itself in a severe budget shortfall. He has dealt firsthand with burdensome government regulation. He knows government should get out of the way, not stand in the way, of small business success. Bill knows that we need an evenhanded approach to COVID-19. Our district’s businesses must be allowed to safely reopen.

As a vineyard and winery owner, Bill knows the vital economic role agriculture plays in our state. He will work hard to solve important water, regulatory and agritourism issues to help our district’s agricultural businesses thrive. He knows farmers are experiencing extreme pressure from unfair international trade practices and changing consumer habits. He knows our dams are essential to irrigation, transportation, and electricity.

Through his experience on the Prosser School Board, Bill developed a well-rounded understanding of the issues in education. Bill will work to ensure Washington state meets its obligation to fund education, and he will prioritize reopening schools safely.

When compared to his competitors, Bill stands out as the best choice in the 16th Legislative District.

To the editor,

Are you as disappointed with our 5th Congressional District Congresswoman as I? Not once has Cathy McMorris Rodgers had the courage to stand up to Trump and his divisive actions. It is time to vote for someone who has the courage, who has demonstrated skill in dealing with people of all walks of life, and who will work across party lines to serve us and our country. It is time to vote for Dave Wilson!

Any successful challenger to CMR must bring all Democrats, Independents and disaffected Republicans together to defeat her. Democrat Dave Wilson has the best chance in this area to defeat Cathy in a general election. Dave Wilson will represent us in the broad political center and will build working relationships with all members of Congress.

It is time to put Dave Wilson’s name up against Caty McMorris Rodgers in the general election. Vote for Dave Wilson on August 4, and let’s finally get bi-partisanship back, get our government working for us again, and get rid of a career politician who has no courage or backbone to stand up for what is right and what is so badly needed in our country today.
