DAYTON–The Port of Columbia has announced they have been promised $229,639 in additional grant money from four different funding sources for small businesses that did not previously qualify, such as newer and start-ups.

According to information released by the Port, "Four different funding sources have provided or promised a total of $229,639 in financial aid to be allocated through a grant program coordinated by the Port.

"My intentions with the additional money are to give it to those who did not qualify for the previous grant money, including newer and start-up businesses," said Port Director Jennie Dickinson.

The CARES Grant money totaling $154,000 for small businesses that was given to Columbia County businesses in July, required that the business be open for at least one year. Dickinson said, "There are still many businesses out there that need a hand to get through this challenging time."

The City Council of Dayton also approved giving of the CARES funds awarded to the City, to the Port to also give out to small businesses.

A local review committee made up of one representative each from the City of Dayton, Columbia County, Port of Columbia, Dayton Chamber of Commerce, the nonprofit sector, and the private sector will score each application based on predetermined criteria. These are reimbursable grants, meaning the business must provide copies of invoices that add up to the amount being requested in order to qualify for the funding."
