Kiwanis Club cancels Turkey Bingo

September 3, 2020

DAYTON–The coronavirus has claimed yet another community event "victim"-the annual Turkey Bingo-a community favorite.

The Kiwanis Club has sponsored the community favorite for 33 years, giving consistently "full houses" at the Elementary Multipurpose Room an enjoyable afternoon playing Bingo, winning prizes and also taking home a frozen turkey for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. In recent years, the Dayton Lions Club has teamed up with the Kiwanians to help put on the event.

Turkey Bingo doesn't just pop up and happen. Kiwanis Club members spend considerable time months in advance, acquiring donations and gift packages, and lots of frozen turkeys, to give happy Bingo winners, so rather than begin that process with the uncertainty of COVID-19 restrictions in November, the Kiwanis Board of Directors opted to cancel this year's event.

Alternatives are being mulled, according to Kiwanis President Chuck Reeves, who urged the community to "stay tuned."
