DAYTON–The Associated Student Body (ASB) has been hard at work with no interruption since the election of officers this year. They have been busy working assemblies, spirit weeks, and even mental health recognition within the school.

Earlier in the October, the ASB officers held the annual “Welcome Back Assembly” for their fellow students. By separating the assembly into two groups, freshmen and sophomores, and juniors and seniors, they were able to give an entertaining assembly to each group, while maintaining the required social distancing.

During the Welcome Back Assembly, the officers introduced themselves to the student body and sharing their goals for the coming school year. The agenda also included “Minute to Win It” games, where students from each class competed against each other for prizes. The ASB also presented a demonstration of proper school dress code compliance, and led the school in the Bulldog Fight-Song, along with an appearance by school mascot, Brutus the Bulldog.

The assembly was a success, and after completing this task, the officers began creating bulletin boards in the high school to benefit and promote student mental health, which included information and examples of things students can do for themselves in stressful times. Along with this ongoing project, the plans for a high school Halloween Spirit Week are coming together.

The spooky holiday lands on a Saturday this year, creating a perfect opportunity for the officers to create a week of fun. Each school day of the week, preceding Halloween, will have a designated dress-up day which students are welcomed to participate in to receive points for their class. Along with a dress up day, the ASB is planning a fun morning activity for each day of the week. As the week goes on, points from participating in dress-up days, and activities will be added up for each class, and the class with the most points will win.

The ASB officers plan to decorate the school with festive decorations to boost the spooky spirit. If you have any Halloween decorations and costumes you are willing to let go of, the ASB would greatly appreciate any and all donations. The decorations will be put to use within the high school, and costumes will be contributed to a donation box, from which students who cannot afford a Halloween costume can take a costume to wear this year.
