Census Bureau ends data collection on 2020 Census

October 22, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Self-response and field-data-collection operations for the 2020 Census will conclude on October 15, 2020, the U.S. Census Bureau announced October 13. As of that date, well over 99.9% of housing units have been accounted for in the 2020 Census.

Garfield County’s response was 60.4%, according to Cindy Widmer of the Blue Mountain Complete Count Committee, responsible for conducting census operations for Garfield, Columbia and Walla Walla counties.

Columbia County checked in at 58.7% and Walla Walla County responses were at 71%, she said. Across the state of Washington, response was 72% and the U.S. percentage as of October 13 was at 66.8%.

“We do not have access to the response numbers associated with on-site enumeration (door knocking), reflecting actual surveys submitted during or after Census Bureau employees visited homes,” Widmer said. “We hope our rates will soar once the Census Bureau merges data from all sources.”

The U.S. Census Bureau is currently updating 2020Census.gov, Census.gov, as well as all external and internal guidance to reflect the schedule update.
