What's New at School?

DHS back to Remote Learning

December 3, 2020

DAYTON–Last week was Thanksgiving and for the students of Dayton High School, not only does this mean food and family, it also means a much-needed break from school. This year, Thanksgiving Break was planned for November 25-27, but an increase in Covid-19 cases in Columbia County, and two cases in the school, the decision was made to take the week off, and have the students learn from home before their break began.

The School Board and County Health Department collaborate to evaluate and maintain the safety of the students of Dayton. Starting November 30, remote learning through video calls will continue until December 4. From there, the Board and Health Department will re-evaluate whether we will return to in-person learning, or continue with distance learning.

After the sudden shut down in March, Dayton High School converted to education through online means, with scheduled assignment pick-up, and drop off times. This is how the school year finished, and as the new school year is reverting back to the online methods, students are experienced, and prepared to learn this way.

Although it is not an ideal way of learning for some, and in-person learning was the expectation for this year, both the teachers, and students, are handling the situation very well, and hope that school can go back to normal soon.
