Charlotte Edmenson

July 1, 1942-December 7, 2020

Charlotte Maxine Startin Edmenson, age 96, of Dayton, passed away on December 7, 2020.

Charlotte was born in Dayton on July 1, 1924, to Carrie (Frost) Startin and Earl Startin. Charlotte grew up on Malcum Grade just off Eckler Mountain and went to first, second and third grade in a school house on Eckler Mountain. After that she attended small rural schools in the Patit area until she started the sixth grade in Dayton and rode the bus. Charlotte graduated from Dayton High School in 1942.

While in school she cleaned house, babysat for local families, worked at the bakery and at Elk Drug Store. After she married, she cleaned motel rooms for her brother Floyd Startin and his wife May, who built and managed the Blue Mountain Motel.

Charlotte married Howard Meyers (Jack) Edmenson in 1944 and raised two daughters Sheri Edmenson Fouts and Jackie Edmenson Penner. There was also two step children from her husband's previous marriage; Bill Edmenson who passed away in 1999, and Sally Martin Kirkendal, of Walla Walla.

Charlotte is survived by daughters Jackie (Jay) Penner of Waitsburg; Sheri (Bob) Fouts of Spokane Washington; step daughter Sally Kirkendahl of Walla Walla, grandchildren Dwight (Janell) Penner, Debbie (Kirk) Fortner, Vickie Lewis, Bill (Roseanne) Groom, Jennifer Keen, Darin (Heidi) Delp, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband Jack Edmenson, mother Carrie, father Earl; brother, Floyd Startin; sisters, Gladys Startin Magill and Eileen Startin Aker, step son Bill Edmenson and grandson Brian Delp .

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dayton Alumni or charity of the donor’s choice. Donations can be sent to Hubbard-Rogg Funeral Home 111 S. Second St, Dayton, WA 99328

Due to Covid-19, there will be no funeral service. A private service will be held at a later date. Hubbard-Rogg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
