DAYTON–Finally, Dayton-Waitsburg (DW) high school sports are well underway, and last week, our boys and girls kicked off the season with a successful start. The season began on February 15, and will end March 29; so far, the football team has only had one game, as opposed to the volleyball girls who played three games just last week.

The team of around 15 girls had a long week, with two of three games being away. While the Varsity team did not have good luck against Mabton and Kittitas, the Junior Varsity girls were overjoyed to start off their season with a win against the Tri-Cities Prep JV.

Currently, spectators are not allowed in the gym, with the exception of two assigned friends or family members per player. Over the next five weeks these girls will be working hard and giving their all to make the best of the alternative season.

While the JV Volleyball success brought a bit of joy to Dayton and Waitsburg schools, the football boys delivered a huge win this past weekend. On Saturday February 27, the DW football team won their first game against the Highland Scotts, with a stunning score of 38-0. The game was held at the Waitsburg field, and to the delight of many, spectators were welcomed to park their cars along the fence-line outside, allowing much more community support in these trying times. The win was a huge success for the football boys, sending them and their peers over the moon with excitement for the rest of the season to come.

This exciting start to the first sport season of the year may just be exactly what Pietrzycki High needed.
