Metal roofing and tarps applied to the roof were no match for winter wind storms and the Eagles Aerie No. 2618 membership met recently to discuss and plan for repairs to the roof.

DAYTON–The Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 2618 here met last week and again this week to address a leaking roof, damaged when high winds earlier this year carried away some of the metal roofing and allowing rain and snow melt to enter the building.

Lupe Benavides, one of the Aerie's trustees, presided over a membership meeting attended by approximately 60 Aerie members Wednesday, March 10.

The water damage within the building is in the upper floor, and the kitchen and adjacent areas, such as the dance floor and the carpeting.

The insurance policy has paid $85,000 for repairs, Benavides said, and the Aerie is presently seeking estimates from area roofing contractors. Bids ranging from $33,000 to $65,000 have been received.

"Our main concern is to fix the roof and stop the leaking," Benavides said.

Discussion included the need for Eagles volunteers to perform as much work as permitted to save the organization money.
