Homecoming King Wyatt Costello was a committed contestant at the high school pep-rally "donut-eating challenge." Public Relations Manager Cassidy Laughery tries with all her might to hold the donuts in place with some success. What fun it was to watch each participant try to eat those round sweet morsels dangling by a string off a broom handle, as they bounced and danced around with each attempted bite.
DAYTON–The past few weeks, the Dayton High School Associated Student Body (ASB) Council has been planning the perfect homecoming week; even if it was a little later than usual. All came together just in time for the last DW football game of the season, and to kick off for spring break.
To the delight of the ASB, the spirit week was a hit. From making class spirit sticks, to the ASB Elections, and a pep rally, every activity was enjoyed by all.
The pep rally was especially exciting; each class was separated into sections, around a circle on the front lawn of the high school. Students cheered on their classmates, as they participated in games against players from the other classes, while the ASB officers managed the event.
The ASB Council Forum on Wednesday went smoothly, as well. Each candidate, there being only one for each position, gave a speech in front of the entire high school, and future freshman class, as to why they should vote for them. The candidates for the 2021-2022 student council are as follows: for Public Relations Assistant Manager, Freshman Grace Trump, Public Relations Manager: Freshman Wyntr McCauley, Treasurer: Sophomore Hudson Reser, Secretary: Junior Aria Woodend, Vice President: Sage Kilts, and for President: Junior Trista Villaro.
Thursday also brought to us an all-school pizza party, and the presentation, and announcement of the 2021 Homecoming Court: Freshman: Kailey Jonas escorted by Nolan Korslund, Sophomore: Claudia Benavides escorted by Junior Magill, Junior: Trista Villaro escorted by Dylan Bledsoe, and for the Senior Class: Victoria Raposa escorted by Glen Smith, Mackena Culley Escorted by Wyatt Costello, and Sadie Seney escorted by Robbie Patterson. This year's Homecoming King and Queen were Wyatt Costello, and Sadie Seney.
Overall, the entire week was fun had by all, with the exception of the cancellation of Stud Volleyball, a long standing homecoming tradition, which will be rescheduled for a later date. The week was planned in just a short amount of time, but proved to be a huge success, and one that the current students of Dayton High School will remember for a long time.
