GRANGER–Pitching by Granger's Candenas was more than the Dayton-Waitsburg Wolfpack could handle on this outing and Granger easily sliced through the double-bill with a pair of wins here April 21.

DW is looking at the final few games of the season, today, April 29, journeying to plat Cle Elum at Granger's field, then hosting TriCities Prep Saturday in Dayton and finishing the season on May 3 against the Granger JV.

"We had good defense," commented Head Coach Carly Benavides, of the Granger opener, lost 14-3 on the arm of Granger's pitcher Candenas. "The girls just had a hard time hitting off her."

Granger slugged a bunch of runs across the plat in the third and fifth innings for the 14-3 five-inning win on 12 hits and with just one error. DW managed six hits and committed only two errors. Claudia Benavides counted a pair of hits, with Peyton Struckmeier, Kameryn Tupling, Alyssa Segraves and Jonas.

In the second game, Granger came out on top 11-1 by piling two, three and four-run innings together to end it by the fifth, thanks to 12 hits. "We had a lot of errors this game," Benavides said. "We fought hard...the dots just weren't connecting."

Hosting Columbia-Burbank on April 17, DW went the distance for a 4-2 win over the Lady Coyotes in the first game, garnering eight hits and surviving four errors. Pitcher Sadie Seney had a good day, striking out seven, and Peyton Struckmeier, said Coach Benavides, "is a beast behind the plate. She is a freshman who has really stepped up."

In the nightcap, DW ten-runned Columbia 13-3, stopping the game at the bottom of the fifth inning.

"We had a big hitting game," Benavides said. "They did a great job with the sticks."

Benavides noted that C-B was a very young team who played hard.

Claudia Benavides started a "home run rally," followed by Megan Forney and Seney.

"The fourth inning was a big inning for us," she said. "Our hitters made some adjustments. The Burbank pitcher had a great off speed pitch.

"Claudia Benavides hit a three-run home run, followed by Megan Forney with a single home run," Benavides said. "Then in the fifth inning, Seney hit a two-run home run.

"In this game Sadie Seney had 6 strikeouts and walked 1," Benavides said. "She, on the weekend, had 14 strikeouts and two walks. The team has done a great job on making adjustments and working hard for the win."

April 10 at River View, the Panthers were overwhelming for DW, shortening the first game with a 21-3 score and going six innings in the second for a 22-12 win over the Wolfpack.

"Abbigail Paolino had a great hit and just floats around the bases," Benavides said. "Quick, quick, quick!"

Seney struck out eight and "had a great game pitching," the coach noted.
