DW golfers show well at championships

Cayle Davis shot a 103 to finish in the top ten at Suncadia last week, wrapping up the covid 2021 golf season on a good note. Davis was one of Dayton-Waitsburg Wolfpack's steady performers this season, according to Head Coach Mike McGhan.
CLE ELUM, WASH.–Three Dayton-Waitsburg Wolfpack golfers competed in the five-way season finale here Tuesday, April 27, with three Wolfpack golfers finishing in the top ten.
Dayton-Waitsburg golfer Teagen Larsen came in fifth out of a field of 11 women golfers from teams from Columbia-Burbank, Cle Elum, Goldendale and Highland High School of Cowiche, Wash.
The teams golfed at the Suncadia course near Cle Elum, covering 18 holes on the Par 72 course.
Dayton-Waitsburg's Cayle Davis was the men's team's top-finishing golfer, returning to the clubhouse with a 103 and ninth place in the field of twenty golfers. Right behind Davis was Wolfpack golfer Caleb Barron, who carded 110 for a tenth-place finish. At 13th place was DW golfer Garrett Palmer, who finished with 121 strokes and ahead of six other golfers.

Watching his shot fly, Caleb Barron, another of Dayton-Waitsburg Wolfpack golfers, worked hard during the match at Cle Elum, said Head Coach Mike McGhan. Barron's 110 scorecard was in spite of struggling on the fairways, McGhan said.
"Teagen played a solid round today," said McGhan. Larsen's 119 was in the ballpark with fourth-place Shayley Lanson of Columbia (117) and Sara Hiebert of Goldendale with 113. The number two golfer, Jasmine James of Highland, shot 108 and the champion was Amaya Smith, also of Highland, had the field's best 103.
"Cayle played his best round today on the most difficult course we've seen this year," commented Coach McGhan. Davis finished ninth with a score of 103. "His putter betrayed him on the back nine be I'm still pleased with his decision making."
Close on Davis's heels was Barron, who shot 110 on the difficult course and finished in tenth place. "Caleb found trouble with his driver all day and had to fight on every hole," McGhan said.
In thirteenth place was Wolfpack golfer Garrett Palmer, who scored 121 to stay ahead of six other golfers in the group. "Garrett also played his best golf of the season." McGhan commented.
Sergio Sanchez of Highland shot a four-over-par 76 to win the match, one of five teammates in the top five spots.
