Jeff McCowen is seeking re-election to the Dayton School Board, Position 5.

“It has been an honor to serve as a Dayton School Board Director since I was appointed in July, 2021. I’ve accepted this responsibility to help ensure that our future generations are well-equipped to become productive members of society. I hope to help guide the District as it supports the education of our youth and provides critical services to our students and families.

“I believe that it is the job of the school board to act in a manner that is fiscally responsible, while also understanding that we are making an investment in our future leaders. Children need to be given the tools and support to make a successful pursuit of their life goals.

“I will model collaborative leadership and teamwork as a member of the Board. I believe that we have a duty to show our youth how to think strategically, act responsibly and treat each other respectfully.

“We are living through difficult times. Since the beginning of the pandemic, it has been important for the District to be cognizant of the health and safety (both physical and mental) of our students and staff. They have all been incredible in their efforts to “adapt and overcome” the challenges over the last year and a half.

“As we move forward, it is my goal to ensure that the school provides students with the knowledge and skills they need for the jobs of tomorrow and that every diploma reflects a high level of academic rigor. Our graduates need to be prepared for their next step, whether it’s college, technical training, or directly into the workforce.

“In addition to my work on the school board, I actively volunteer in the community by serving on the boards for local youth sports organizations, I coach and mentor youth through baseball, soccer, and basketball. I was a Younglife leader and also coached soccer and girls basketball at Dayton High School.

“I am a lifelong Dayton resident and graduated from DHS in 1999 before attending Walla Walla Community College and Washington State University. Professionally, I have worked for Columbia County Public Works for the last 13 years. I am a proud husband and parent of two students in the Dayton Public Schools system.

“Go Bulldogs!”
