DAYTON–The Milton-Freewater Pioneer Posse Summer Series and Mini Series rodeo took place recently naming area young riders as top recipients.

There are approximately 120 participants for the Summer Series and 80 for the Mini Series. In the recent event, it was structured for individual participation of which three joined this go-round. This time, each rode in classes that were judged on riding ability and classes judge based on costumes-horse–rider costumes! The creativity and imaginations top the chart this year.

The following received awards in different events. They are: Jemma Anderson 1st place ribbon and received a buckle in Walk/Trot Show at the Milton-Freewater Pioneer Posse.

Korbyn Osborn took 1st place and received a buckle in Beginner Barrels ages 10-13. He also received 3rd place in Walk/Trot Show at the Milton-Freewater Pioneer Posse.

Mikayka Close John placed 5th in Beginner Barrels ages 10-13 and 5th place in Walk–Trot Show.

Korbyn Osborn and Mikayka Close John also participated in many costume contests. They were awarded 2nd place as a pair and Osborn took several individual 1st place awards.

"We are very thankful that we have our local fairgrounds for our kids to work day in and day out with their horses," said Rebekah Osborn. "It is a lot of time and effort, we know. But we want to make sure we offer thanks and appreciation where it is due."

There is an advantage to having a facility relatively close for youngsters to practice their riding skills in a well-kept, safe environment. "Without the fairgrounds, our kids would not be progressing as much as they are," Osborn continued! "Our equine facilities at the fairgrounds are SO important. Not only to these kids, but to many others as well. We must not forget that.

It takes a willing student, parent participation and someone with expertise to grow and develop healthy, well-rounded children and that is where 4-H steps in with leaders willing to go the distance with every child. "We also want to give a huge shout out to the Hearts & Horses 4-H club advisor, Leeann Literal, who has been the most amazing leader and teacher for everything horse for these kiddos and many others," said Osborn. "Her knowledge and dedication to our kids is unsurpassed! The life lessons she's taught them will take them far in whatever direction they decide to go. From fairs and showing, to gaming, big rodeos, and more!"

Each of these young individuals will continue to develop and grow their skills using a facility within their own community. "They all look forward to continuing to better their skills and expanding their opportunities as they work year-round in our beautiful community," said Osborn.
