DAYTON–Good things come in small packages and it's no different if you're a person or a civic organization.

The Dayton Kiwanis Club, which will be celebrating its 100th year serving the Dayton and Columbia County community, received a $500 check from A & R Solar of Seattle last week.

The charitable contribution was an unexpected gift to the Kiwanis Club due to a local customer of the company recommending the club as a potential recipient.

The card accompanying the check includes a picture of the company's some 63 employees and states "Each year, we ask our solar customers to nominate local organizations that make a difference in their communities. One of them selected you, and we are happy to send you this donation. As a Certified B Corporation, giving back is built into our company's DNA. Thanks for the good that you do in the world. It's needed now more than ever. Happiest of holidays, Your friends at A&R Solar."
