The Touchet Valley Golf Course Irrigation Project got an additional boost recently when the Touchet Valley Ladies Golf group, represented by Cherie Hinchliff, who presented Sean Thurston with a $2,000 check.

DAYTON–The Touchet Valley Golf and Recreation Board (TVGR) treasurer Sean Thurston, accepted a $2,000 donation from Cherie Hinchliff, representative of the Touchet Valley Ladies Golf group (TVLG) and committee chair for Junior Golf, Wednesday, December 15, for the golf course irrigation project.

A portion of monies raised throughout the year by the TVLG, which would have normally hosted the free Junior Golf instructional week in the spring, was donated to the TVGR by Hinchliff.

"Because Junior Golf did not take place the past two years due to COVID-19 restrictions, there were funds available," said Barbara Phinney, TVLG President. "It just made sense to utilize that portion of unused funds toward developing a watering system for the golf course grounds, which would in turn benefit local and visiting golfers of all ages."

The ladies' club hosts Junior Golf each year which is aimed toward young golfers. Participants are provided a free week of instruction and a BBQ at the end of the week and lots of fun in between, in hope of cultivating new golfers who will love the game and continue the legacy of the Touchet Valley Golf Course. Hinchliff has been the chairperson of Junior Golf the past several years.

"Unfortunately, Junior Golf has been postponed for the past two years due to COVID-19 mandates, so the TVLG thought it was fitting that she (Hinchliffe) donate the unused funds to the irrigation project," said Phinney. "It is hoped Junior Golf will safely return in the spring of 2022."

The TVLG club is invested in the community and the beautiful golf course Dayton is fortunate to have and the group wants to make it the best for all who also loves golf.

TVLG meet on Wednesday mornings from Spring through Fall and welcome any ladies who are interested in golfing to come and join the group. "The goal the group strives for is to have fun golfing, no matter the level of experience," said Phinney.
