DAYTON- The 2021-22 school year is slowly ending for our local high school and will wrap up with many events. This coming week will bring spirit week, filled with fun events and activities. In May, the junior class will a combined Prom with Waitsburg high school, and near the end of the year, the High School Outdoor Club has a whole-school hiking trip in the works.

The high school will be having “Spring Spirit Week”, a celebration of the second semester and all spring sports April 25–2. The week will start with class meetings and cookies for all. Tuesday, students will have time to watch one of three movie options with their peers, and on Wednesday, a field day will take place at the high school track, offering mini-games based on spring sports. The fun will continue Thursday when the high school will participate in the much-requested Super Smash Bros. Tournament, a small tournament for the popular video game. Spring Spirit Week will close on Friday with a pep assembly. The assembly will acknowledge spring athletes and celebrate with an array of games. The week will also wrap up just in time for baseball senior night on April 29.

The teens of Dayton and Waitsburg will soon have their first official Prom since 2019 on May 7. The Junior classes from both schools will host the dance, with the theme of “Cloud 9”. The event will take place at Waitsburg’s Preston Hall gymnasium. This event will be one of the first “normal” experiences that many students will be able to have, considering the restrictions they have faced in the last two years.
