Learning how to aid the feathered, Dayton veterinarian Kennie Reeves, D.V.M, and local falconer Anne Dowdy joined participants from Washington, Oregon and Boise, Idaho to take part in a special raptor seminar at the Blue Mountain Wildlife in Pendleton which specializes in raptor rehabilitation, instructed by Dr. Jeff Cooney, a wildlife biologist and licensed veterinarian specializing in raptors.

Cathlin Donohue, a 1989 graduate of Dayton Senior high School, received word from the Washington State Bar Association that she has passed the bar exam. She attended Washington State University and graduated cum laude in 1993 with a dual major in Political Science and Communications

The Dayton softball team has a solid hold on second place with a 6 win, 2 loss record. "District is going to be tough" stated Coach Mike McGhan, "Royal City is in the north division of our District and they are the defending State Champions."

The 1998 Dayton Days Court will be presented by Princess Raelynn Rinehart, Queen Mary Reeves and Princess Yolanda Smith.

Susan McElroy has been named to the second team of the `1998 All-USA Academic Team for Community and Junior Colleges. At the reception held in Olympia, Governor Gary Locke congratulated McElroy on being chosen to the Washington State First Academic Team.

Columbia County Sheriff Jim La Tour hails local woman, Sandra Price, as a hero. Three and one-half year old Yujairy Davila had fallen into a hole and her baby sitter was attempting to retrieve her. Price and her husband Amory were riding by on bicycles. Seeing the baby had gone under water, Price jumped off her bike and pulled the baby to safety.

Chuck Wheaton, Othello, was hired as the new school superintendent.

Mrs. Leslie Hays, the former Carol Kerckhof, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Kerckhof, received the National Senior Wife Award at the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine annual recognition program.

Sixty years of furniture service to the community are be marked by Suffield Furniture Co., which has been operating continuously in Dayton since 1913 when the firm was founded by the late C.E. Suffield. The firm is now owned by his two children, Clifton Suffield and Mrs. C. H. (Marjorie) Sinkbeil.

Mrs. Vern Rogg, chairman of the Philanthropic committee, and Mrs. Bill Trudgeon, presented the Chapter's annual citizenship awards to Rosalee Beck and Mike Himmelberger.

New Officers for the Associated Student Body at Dayton High School are Deena French, Secretary; Jay Conklin, Vice President; Debbie Douglas, president; Mark Nelson, Treasurer, and Shari Atteberry, Assistant Treasurer.

Dayton F.F.A judging team Marion McLain, Phil Russell and Wilbur Startin, with Bill Larson and Bill Brown acting as alternates, placed second with a score of 1433.4; Walla Walla with 1499.8, in the Southeastern Washington Fat Stock Show held in Walla Walla.

May Queen and Court are Doris Poulsen, Don Bales, Peggy Heavers, Duane Kitterman, (May Queen) Sherrill Morris, David Cadman, Laura Fletcher, Dick Winnett, Joanne Criss and Daniels.

Mrs. Homer Hamilton called to report that it was snowing at their farm home at the timber line on Eckler Mountain, with ten inches on the ground and was still snowing.

Commissary-General Egan has ordered purchase of 1,000,000 rations for the troops to be sent to help Admiral Dewey complete the conquest of the Philippines.

The Hawaiian government stands ready to afford the United States all possible aid in carrying out its military and naval plans in the Pacific, furnishing its ships coal, refuge and facilities for repairing.

The Manila rebels cannot be restrained, and massacres of Spanish priests and officials continues. A proclamation issued by the rebel chief calling upon all insurgents to obey Dewey's orders fails to stop the bloody work.
