DAYTON–Columbia County voters had their say in the 2024 Primary Election, voting primarily for Republican candidates for the offices of Congressional Fifth District, State Senator, Governor and others, in preliminary election-night results. Most statewide totals were preliminary and unavailable as of press deadline.
Michael Baumgartner, a Spokane Republican, received the most votes in Columbia County in his bid for the Fifth Congressional District seat. He received 321 votes and 31.97%. Republican Brian Dansel showed with 198 votes and 19.72% of the vote.
Dr. Raul Garcia, a Republican, received local voters' nod with 339 and 34.24%, for U.S. Senate. Incumbent Democrat Maria Cantwell received 300 Columbia County votes.
For governor, Dave Reichert, Republican, won 35.79% with 364 votes while Republican Semi Bird got 223 votes and Democrat Bob Ferguson received 182 votes.
Dayton resident William Combs, who prefers the Independent party, received five votes for governor in Columbia County, 627 votes statwide.
Republican candidates were the county voters' choice down the ballot.
Dan Mathews received 398 votes for Lt. Governor; Dale Whitaker got 692 votes for Secretary of State; Sharon Hanek received 711 for Treasurer; Matt Hawkins got 724 votes for Auditor; Pete Serrano, current mayor of Pasco, garnered 725 votes for Attorney General; Jaime Herrera Beutler got 405 votes for Commissioner of Public Lands; Non-partisan David Olson got 391 votes for Superintendent of Public Instruction; and Phil Fortunato, a Republican, got 458 votes for Insurance Commissioner.
Unopposed Ninth District Senator Mark Schoesler received 755 Columbia County votes. Early results available Election Night show Schoesler with 16,775 votes versus 880 write-in.
Incumbent Republican Rep. Mary Dye garnered 748 votes or 75.18% compared to Democrat Patrick Miller with 243 and 24.42%. Rep. Joe Schmick, Republican, got 757 votes, 76.62%, compared to Democrat challenger Pam Kohlmeier with 177 votes and 17.91. In the Ninth District, Dye leads Miller 15,115 to 7,874, and Schmick is ahead 15,094 to Kohlmeier's 6,708.
County Commission incumbents Ryan R. Rundell and Marty Hall, both Republicans, were unopposed. Rundell, seeking re-election to District 1 seat, received 264 votes, and all, for District 2, got 299 votes.
Supreme Court Judge, Position No. 2, went to candidate Dave Larson, who received 367 Columbia County votes, 45.31%. Nearest to Larson was Todd A. Bloom with 211 and 26.05%. Sal Mungia received 165 votes and appears to be leading statewide with 379,711 votes, 41.86%, in election-night returns.
