Lady Coyotes cut through DW

December 26, 2019

DAYTON–Dayton-Waitsburg wasn’t able to hold off Kittitas/Thorp’s senior forward Kyra Rupp, who scored a game-high 28 in Kittitas’s 57-35 win over DW here last weekend. Last Friday’s game with Liberty Christian was canceled due to illness and will be rescheduled.

DW is now 0-1 in league, 0-5 overall and heads Friday and Saturday to Milton-Freewater for the Mac-Hi Tournament. Play in the new year begins Saturday, January 4 with a home game against DeSales in Waitsburg.

“The girls played hard tonight, but we had some breakdowns that allowed Kittitas to stay on top,” said Asst. Coach Desirae Jones. “Rupp was a hard force to stop, with 28 points.”

Freshman guard Claudia Benavides played her first full varsity game and scored 14 for DW, plus five steals, Jones said.

Kira Boggs and Sadie Seney each drained three pointers for Dayton-Waitsburg.

Kittitas took control from the outset, chalking up 15-8 in the first quarter and leading 29-14 at halftime.

Dayton-Waitsburg rebounded with 13 points in the third stanza, but Kittitas kept up the scoring with a 19-13 third quarter difference before coasting to the 57-35 win.
