City Council's Yost and Broughton swap places

January 16, 2020

DAYTON–Councilwomen Misty Yost and Christine Broughton continue their service on the Council in 2020, but with different position numbers next to their names.

When long-time Councilwoman Kathy Berg resigned her Position 5 last summer, Misty Yost was appointed to the post.

After Zac Weatherford left Position 2 to fill the mayoral opening created by the resignation of the late Craig George, Yost opted to file and run unopposed for that Position 2 seat.

In the meantime, former councilwoman Christine Broughton was appointed to fill Weatherford’s No. 2 seat, which expired at the end of 2019.

After the November election, Yost was elected to Position 2, and Broughton was recently appointed to the now vacant Position 5.

At the Council’s January 8 meeting, Councilman Dain Nysoe was appointed to serve as mayor pro-tem for 2020.

Under committee reports, Councilman Mike Paris spoke about the need to update the Rules of Procedure and Ethics Handbook. After discussion, there was a motion by Nysoe to go back to the Personnel Committee for more discussion on the ethics portion.

The Council approved signing a contract with the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board to seal coat Cameron Street to the football field. A grant of $121,600 was received to perform the work.
