Dayton-Waitsburg wrestler Carlos Norris was ahead on points when a power outage ended the Kittitas wrestling match last Saturday.

KITTITAS–Fifteen seconds before Carlos Norris would've notched a 5-3 decision victory in the semi-final wrestling match here last Saturday-the lights went out. Literally.

"The lights went out right in the middle of my match," Norris said this week. He had gotten up 5-0 in the first round and his opponent had scored three points when the match was called because of the outage that affected the Kittitas Valley.

In the day's opening match, 138-lb. Norris had defeated an Ellensburg opponent, winning by fall in the second round.

The final regular-season match will be this Saturday in Ritzville.

The Eastern Washington Athletic Conference Tourney will be Wednesday, February 5, at White Swan. The action starts at 6 p.m.

Should Norris, the two-time defending league champion in the 138 lb. division, reach the State Wrestling Tournament in Tacoma (February 21-22) again this year, he'll be in the running for a medal. In 2019, Norris went 2-2 at state, narrowly missing the medal round.
