Chuck Thronson and wife Ginger have been chosen as Grand Marshals for the Dayton Chamber of Commerce-sponsored for the Dayton Days Parade.

A new tobacco tax passed by the Washington State Legislature took effect on May 1, raising the tax on a pack of cigarettes by one dollar.

Columbia County Health Systems District patrons are walking. The Washington Health Foundation working collectively with Governor Gregoire to create a state-wide walking challenge, has propelled Washington State into 10th place in the nation.

May 3, 1995

Kim Crothers, a 1988 graduate of Dayton High School, just won the Rocky Mountain Body Building Championship in Spokane, competing in the heavy weight division.

May 7, 1970

The Dayton High School Spring Concert is scheduled for May 19, reported Glen Mitchell, band director. The Dayton band received three first ratings at the Southeastern/Washington High School Music Educators’ Band Concert in Clarkston May 2.


Seventy-Five Years Ago

May 3, 1945

The Warren Howard farm on Tucanon where Mr. Howard and his son, Delbert Howard and family, have long made their home, was the scene of a time-honored event Sunday, the annual Branding Bee. A big potluck dinner was served at noon, with 40 guests present.

One Hundred Years Ago

May 1, 1920

Wednesday Night, May 5, The Masked Marvel and Joe Kitterman will wrestle a finished match-two best out of three. Tickets $1 and $1.50 including War Tax. EVERYBODY INVITED.

April 27, 1895

The beet sugar industry will eventually be the greatest in the Palouse country. With a factory within reasonable distance, ten acres of sugar beets will produce a decent living for a family, even providing the yield per acre is no better than in other districts in the United States.
