Filing Week opens Monday

DAYTON–Two Columbia County Board of Commissioners positions are up for election this year and filing week for anyone interested in throwing their hat in the ring begins Monday.

The filing period will be held May 11-15, 2020, according to Cathy Abel, Deputy Auditor, in the Auditor’s Office located in the Columbia County Courthouse at 341 E. Main, Dayton. Office hours for candidate filing will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, through Friday, May 15, 2020. Candidates seeking to file must observe the social distancing of six feet while in the office.

Open positions are Columbia County Commissioner seats for District 1 and 2. District 1 is held by Ryan Rundell and District 2 is currently held by Michael A. Talbott.

Talbott, who prefers Republican party, was elected to the District 2 position in 2012, succeeding Richard W. Jones. Talbott ran unopposed in 2016.


Rundell, who prefers the Republican Party, was appointed to the seat after Commissioner Norm Passmore, who was elected in 2016, resigned January 30, 2019. He was appointed to the office in March, 2019, and was elected in the November, 2019, General Election, running unopposed.
