DAYTON–Representatives of the Food Bank of Columbia County, Judy Pilcher and Dianne McKinley approached the council at the recent meeting, for approval to move forward with looking into expanding their use of the City Hall Building space into the old fire station garage which isn’t being used other than for some storage for the Chamber of Commerce.

Mayor Zac Weatherford supported their request saying the food bank has increased in size and can better utilize the space. “Since the Food Bank has grown so significantly, this would be an absolutely good thing if they can utilize this space better, he said. “We’ve been talking to the Chamber about where they would put their stuff, and if it’s approved by the council we’ll go ahead and move forward with it.”

The motion was approved to allow them to look at possible need for a separate electrical panel and meter, hooking up water, determining whether they are up to fire code and making sure it can be ADA compliant.

The South Third Street Sidewalk Replacement Project is slated to start on September 1. The project will be executed by Nelson Construction, the company that put in the sidewalks on First Street. The engineering and design were prepared by Anderson Perry and Associates, Inc. and the City Council approved the use of their construction administration services to oversee the project to ensure it’s carried out according to plan and that federal requirements are met. According to Mayor Weatherford, it is partially paid for with federal funding.
