LYONS FERRY–A single-car rollover accident six miles north of Starbuck on Highway 261 resulted in the driver and a 3-month-old infant receiving injuries, according to the Washington State Patrol. Distracted driving is blamed for the mishap.

A District 1 firefighter rocked the disraught infant while other emergency medical personnel prepared accident victim Hope G. Wulf for loading into the Life Flight Network helicopter.

Hope G. Wulf, 20, of Pomeroy, was driving a 2009 Dodge Caliber northbound on State Route 261 and was about a mile west of the Columbia Pulp plant when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a dirt embankment and rolled.

Columbia County Fire District 1 and 3 units responded, along with a Life Flight Network helicopter, and law enforcement, to the scene. Wulf was treated at the scene and airlifted to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, with injuries sustained in the collision.

Three-month-old Georgina L. Grim, also of Pomeroy, received injuries and was also taken to the hospital.

Both were wearing seatbelts, according to the State Patrol.

Wulf was charged with second-degree negligent driving.

The vehicle was totaled.
