CLE ELUM–Wolfpack golfers finished in the teens at the Eastern Washington Athletic Conference District match here May 4.
DW's Teagen Larsen carded 124 to finish 11th out of a field of 22 women golfers. Larsen shot 61 on the front nine holes, then finished with a score of 53 on the back nine for a score of 124.
"Teagen had some difficulties putting," commented Coach Mike McGhan, "but her athleticism enables her to play solid golf. She is a joy to have around and the team will miss her next year."
Wolfpack golfer Caleb Barron enjoyed a good day, finishing 15th out of a field of 41. Barron's front nine score was a respectable 54, with a 57 score on the back nine for 111 strokes.
"Caleb had some tremendous shots," McGhan said, "however, too many of them came after getting himself in trouble in the woods around the course."
Lilly Bone came in 16th in the field of 22 women, which was won by Pomeroy's Chase Caruso, who shot a 95. Bone finished the first nine in 70, the second with a 72 for 142 strokes.
"Lilly has been playing well in practice but she wasn't feeling it today," said McGhan. "Five weeks ago she had never touched a golf club so I am very happy with her progress."
Three DW golfers finished out in 24th, 25th and 30th. Jay Dimak golfed a 61 on the front, 64 on the back for a 125 score and 24th place. Cayle Davis finished 25th in 127 strokes, 65 on the front nine, and improving to 62 on the back. Garrett Palmer, 30th, shot a 142, 70 on the front nine, 72 on the back.
"Cayle, a freshman, came in with a lot of confidence but after a two-stroke penalty on the first hole, he couldn't seem to get his game going," McGhan sai. "This will improve over the next three years. Jay played steady and very smart. Garrett struggled at times but he too did a good job of getting himself out of trouble."
"Our scores today do not reflect the improvements I have seen over the course of this short season," McGhan noted. "As a whole, this was one of my most enjoyable seasons as a coach. This bunch had a positive attitude and really cared about and supported each other."
