Christmas Break games no gift for Lady Wolfpack

January 6, 2022

DAYTON–The Lady Wolfpack are still in search of their first win, losing a pair of Christmas break games against Wahluke and Kiona-Benton. Wahluke stayed just ahead of the Wolfpack for a 45-30 non-conference win, and Ki-Be scored big in the third quarter to win 58-30 Wednesday, December 29.

Dayton-Waitsburg is 0-8 overall, 0-2 in Eastern Washington Athletic Conference play. This week’s Tuesday game against Garfield-Palouse was postponed due to hazardous road conditions and may be rescheduled. DW next plays at River View Tuesday, January 11, then hosts Warden and TriCities Prep on the weekend of January 14-15.

The Lady Warriors took a 10-4 lead on buckets by Ellee M, a trey by Azeneth R. and a basket by Salma M, while Megan Forney popped in a bucket and Sagelyn Kilts nailed two free throws for DW’s four points.

Kameryn Tupling came up with a big trey in the second quarter and Kilts found the range inside with a pair of buckets and a gifter. However, Wahluke relied on Ellee, Andre and Cynthia to score their eight to maintain the six-point difference going into halftime, 18-12.

Scoring was even in the third quarter with the Lady Wolfpack scoring nine on a Makenna Barron trey, a bucket by Alyssa Hollingsworth and free throws by Barron and Kilts. The Lady Warrior, edged DW by two points as Anai V. got hot with six points and with teammates hitting a basket and gifters, outscored DW 11-9 that quarter, pushing the difference to eight points.

Wahluke caught fire in the fourth, outscoring DW 16-9. Forney sunk two free throws and Barron hit a bucket. Teagen Culley hit two out of five trips to the foul line and Kilts sank a gifter and a basket.

A home-court loss of 58-30 to the Kiona-Benton Lady Bears on December 28 was led by Ki-Be’s Alexis Quinones with a game high 22 points, while Sage Kilts scored 12—seven in the third quarter—to lead DW players in the scoring column.

Quinones and Andrea Guevara both hit treys in the first quarter as the Lady Bears took a 15-5 lead, but teamwork from the Lady Wolfpack put together a 14-11 second quarter, with Megan Forney nailing a trey, Kameryn Tupling sinking a bucket, Makenna Barron hitting two points and Kilts making a basket. Teagen Culley added a pair of free throws to round out second-quarter scoring.

But Quinones got hot in the third, draining three treys and making a pair of baskets to further extend Ki-Be’s lead to 48-23, and they coasted to the win with reserves on the floor.
