Brian Mathew James

October 26, 1966-January 16, 2022

Brian James went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 16, 2022. He was born in Seattle, Wash., on October 26 1966, to Charles M. James and Margaret L. (Peggy) Pike James. Brian spent his childhood across Oregon and Washington, graduating from high school in Lebanon, Ore. in 1985. It was the fall of that same year he followed his dreams and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Two years later he returned to Oregon, where he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Lauretta D. Brewer. The happy couple went on to welcome their first son in the fall of 1990. Over the years he was joined by a brother and two sisters.

For the past 37 years, Brian has dedicated his life's work to the United States Air Force and Oregon Air National Guard. He was a distinguished airman, holding many leadership roles, achieving the rank of Master Sargent and receiving multiple awards and decorations for his service. His favorite role was as Santa Claus for his guard family.

Brian impacted many lives. He was always present for anyone who needed him. He was a foster father to 19 youth and a mentor to many more. Brian was active in his local Corbett community as a boy scout leader, youth minister at St. Henry's Catholic Church, school board member, local event planner, water board advisor, member of the grange hall and volunteer for the helping hands food bank.

Carrying on his love for children and horses, he brought the two together at Camp Rosenbaum. Over 22 years as a dedicated volunteer, he expanded the horse program, where he will always be known as "Cowboy Yaki". His love and leadership have enhanced the lives of over 3,500 children.

Music was his love, family was his center, and God was his compass. Brian never knew a stranger. His absence will leave a great void in the lives of many.

He is preceded in death by his granddaughter Gracie.

Brian is survived by his parents; Chuck and Peggy James, his beloved wife Lauretta Brewer James, his children, William, Christopher (Samantha), Stephanie, and Victoria; his grandchildren Winter, Trystan, Lucy, Penelope, and Alric; his brother Richard (Candy) and sisters; Cara and Katie (Conrad), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Brian's celebration of life was held on January 25, 2022 at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Gresham Ore. He was laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery in Clackamas Oregon, cementing his legacy among the heroes who came before him.
