DAYTON–Classmates from near and far will reunite here this weekend as the Dayton High School Alumni Association resumes its reunion activities following two years of cancellations due to the pandemic.

Friday will be the time those loyal to the red and gold of the Dayton Bulldogs will gather to greet old friends, enjoy a tasty meal, reminisce and create a float for the Saturday Alumni Parade.

The parade, which will be marshaled by Cecil and Betty Ann Fletcher of Dayton (see accompanying story), gets underway at 10 a.m. Float line-up begins at 8:45 a.m. behind the D.H.S. Gym on 2nd Street as judges will be rubbing their chins beginning at 9 a.m. By 9:45, the parade will begin wending its way to Main Street.

After the parade, the organization’s annual meeting starts at 11 a.m. in the courtyard of the Dayton Historic Depot, 2nd Street and Commercial Ave. Vendors will be on hand for those wanting something to eat or drink.

Tours of Dayton Schools will be available from 1 to 3 p.m. Tours will be self-guided.

Several classes are planning reunion events, such as the Class of 1962, meeting both Friday and Saturday at the residence of Bill and Jackie Savage. The Class of ’67 will gather at John Richter’s home on Friday with dinner at the Liberty Annex Saturday evening.

The Class of ’72 will reunite at Walt Hessler’s home Friday to work on the float and on Saturday, will have a barbecue there.

The Class of 1977 will have a mid-day potluck at Groom’s Cabin on Saturday.

The Class of ’82 is planning a Friday event at Clay and Kathy Arnzen’s home, then they’ll have their Saturday dinner at Chicken Bill’s at the Golf Course.

The Class of ’02 will have a barbecue dinner at the Depot at 5 p.m. Saturday.

On Friday, the Class of 2012 will meet to work on the float and have a barbecue potluck, and then plans call for an informal get together Saturday afternoon.
