Eagles Aerie awaiting licensing

DAYTON–Having signed to purchase the former Weinhard Café at 258 E. Main Street, Eagles Aerie No. 2618 is working on the paperwork for business licenses and liquor permits before it can reopen in the new location, according the Trustee Lupe Benavides.

“Basically, we have to start over,” he said, referring to documentation with state agencies that pertain to the Aerie’s restaurant and bar.

Still uncertain, at the time of this recent interview, was the disposition of the fire-damaged 222 E. Main Street building. “We’re looking at possibly knocking it down,” Benavides said.

Some are wishing a portion of the façade might be saved. “We’d like to do that, but we’ll see if it needs to be reinforced,” he said.
