Climb a volcano lately? Morgan Baker has. Baker, 31, recently bagged Mount Baker in the north Cascade Mountain range. He and climbing partner Connor Potucek climbed the 10,781 foot peak on Saturday, July 22, by skinning (skis with seal skin bottoms) part way up then putting on crampons for the remainder of the climb. From the summit, they skied down, being careful to avoid crevasses and the bergstrom at the bottom of the glacier, and taking care not to fall on the double-diamond-steep glacier. He is the son of Loyal and Charlotte Baker, Chronicle publishers, and Kathy Atkinson of Post Falls, Id., and his grandmothers are Anita Baker of Waitsburg, and Joan Summers of Walla Walla.
