Jewelry artist Robin Kahn drew upon here experiences teaching special education to create unique jewelry pieces.

DAYTON–The jewelry pieces of Spokane artist Robin Kahn is being shown at Wenaha Gallery now through August 15. Kahn's jewelry features the copper and silver jewelry.

Kahn began making jewelry after 27 years of teaching special education in Florida and Washington, and she carries over into her artwork the philosophy she operated under while working with her students: just as each of her students is unique, so also is her jewelry. In the same way, she divined and fashioned an individual approach to help each child learn, so also she divines and fashions individual and unique designs and techniques for her jewelry.

"My jewelry is designed with no two pieces identical," she says, "Each with its own shine."

Kahn is constantly increasing her knowledge of and refining her skills with metalsmithing in the fabrication of unique bracelet, necklace, and earring designs.

She enhances each with texture, design, and patina, using pieces of lace, fibers from a lime bag, cactus or leaf skeletons, and hammers or metal stamps  to transfer these patterns onto the metal surface to embellish her pieces of wearable art.
