You might say the family at 126 West Brooklyn Avenue in Dayton has some skeletons in their closets–and you'd probably be right. Not only skeletons, but werewolves, Frankenstein monsters, glowing ghosts, hunch-backed Lurch butlers, disembodied giant eyeballs, lurking vampires and creepy caskets, and they all come out to make a skin-crawling Halloween display for trick-or-treaters' delight. Terry Bartlett goes all out for All Hallow's Eve, the day before All Saints Day, November 1, a seasonal favorite. In addition to an evening of trick or treating around Dayton's neighborhoods, Trick or Treat Main Street will be from 3 to 5 p.m. for little ghosties and goblins along the Main Street corridor, including the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

DAYTON–Trick or treaters are invited to get a head start on Halloween this coming Monday, October 31, by visiting Dayton's Downtown for the 2022 Trick or Treat Main Street, sponsored by the Dayton Chamber of Commerce and participating businesses.

"The Dayton Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to have a spooktacular time as the community of Dayton celebrates Main Street Trick or Treat," said Belinda Larsen, Executive Director of the Chamber. "Main Street businesses will open their doors to welcome children of all ages to show off their costumes and try to 'scare' the community."

Participating businesses will have a Trick or Treat Main Street sign in their window to welcome trick or treaters to stop in.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office will work in conjunction with the Dayton Fire Fighters' Association to again host its annual Halloween event. Trick or treaters may visit the Sheriff's Office from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in front of the Columbia County Court House at 341 E. Main Street where Sheriff's deputies and volunteers will distribute up to 350 bags of treats. Sheriff Joe Helm will be grilling hot dogs, which will be free to the public.

There'll be prizes for the top three winners of the Picture Pumpkin Carving Contest, sponsored by Inland Cellular and the Dayton Chamber, Larsen said. It's easy to enter: either email or drop off pictures of your carved pumpkin to be displayed inside the windows at Dingle's of Dayton.

If you're trick or treating in the vicinity of Dayton General Hospital, the Columbia County Health System invites children to trick or treat at the Admin building and also parade by the windows at Booker so our Senior community can enjoy the bright faces and fun costumes!

Crooked Fences Garden, 1401 S. 5th Street, will present Dayton's one and only Haunted Garden on October 29, 30 and 31. Hours will be from 4-10 p.m. Saturday, October 29; and 4-9 p.m. on October 30 and 31. Admission is charged.
