November 17, 2022

Fire District No. 3 fire fighters responded to a structure fire at 309 E. Clay Street on November 2. The fire started in the attic and was contained to the attic with smoke and water damage throughout the rest of the residence, said Chief Jeromy Phinney. Part of the ceiling in the living room collapsed due to the weight of the water in the attic. No one received any injuries during the fight and several pets were rescued from the house, but one dog didn't survive, Phinney said. The apparent cause may be the wood stove, he said.
