What's New at School?

November 24, 2022

DAYTON–The School Board received a resignation notice from the combined sports program Dayton-Waitsburg (DW) Wolfpack Athletic Director (AD) Sam Korslund at the November 16 meeting.

The DW sports combine was dissolved recently when Korlund resigned his position as combined DW Wolfpack Athletic Director. He then proposed a dual Athletic Director format acting as athletic director for Dayton School district, still maintaining an active role with Waitsburg while the team finishes the combined commitment.

The Dayton School Board will meet on December 7 to discuss the re-hire of Korslund as Dayton School District Athletic Director. Some student athletes expressed concern that there may not be enough participation to build a team next year. While the effect will feel much greater in the High School, in the Middle School the issue is not as pressing because there are numerous student athletes.

The news of the change came as a shock; some students expressed an emotional loss over this dissolution of the combined sports program because since middle school, all their sports years have been with Waitsburg.

The Dayton High School Leadership and Associated Student Body (ASB) met to discuss ways to increase sports participation for the coming school year. Korslund has expressed how he will support all of the student athletes and answer any questions through the transition.

Korslund has put in a lot of time towards the DW Wolfpack combine and will do the same as the Dayton School District Athletic Director.
