The downwind of habits

January 12, 2023

The cargo jet overshot the runway and ended up in a French lake. The three crew members were safely rescued but the perilous crash points out that the force of momentum can lead to disaster. The motion of a moving body can be hard to stop, especially when a downwind is involved that pushes the limits even further.

The same is true of habits, practices, and addictions that are harmful and displeasing to the Lord. We set it in motion and the downwind of habit propel us on. The Lord does not leave us hopeless or helpless. In His love He promises us strength to repent (turn away from evil as we turn to Him) so that we will experience the freedom and victory He has promised us. We turn away from enslaving sin through the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. It requires a strong decision on our part, faith in Him, and a determination to glorify the Lord.

We are promised "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" Philip. 4:13. He provides grace for our time of need, answers our prayer, and gives us the power to make a better choice. "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind, and God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it" 1 Cor. 10:13

God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. That plan begins to manifest itself when we place our trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
