Long-time Bulldog sports announcer to hang up microphone

"Well, I see ten players, three striped shirts and one orange ball, so I guess we're ready to play basketball!" has been Jeff Turner's trademarked quip prior to a game's opening tip off, and Turner, who has been the "Voice of the Bulldogs" for some 22-plus years, will be unplugging the microphone for the last time following Dayton-Waitsburg's last regular-season home game next Thursday, February 2, the Chronicle has learned. Turner has volunteered countless hours to announce athletic events since he and wife Shannon and their family moved back to Dayton in 2000, and the previous announcer, David Bruce, moved from town. He has announced football, volleyball and basketball games through the years, and sources say Jeff counts as fortunate that he called all of the volleyball games while his wife served as coach, son Ryan's senior year in basketball, all of daughter Stephanie's volleyball and basketball contests, as well as son Garett's football and basketball games.
