Pastor's Corner

A wing and a prayer

The Pastor gave his two boys a toy helicopter made of bamboo, cork, and powered by rubber bands. Living in a home with two libraries and stimulated by a love for learning, the two young boys made several copies of the toy helicopter as their interest in aviation was ignited. Years later, the two boys, sons of a United Brethren Bishop, Milton Wright, became known as the pioneers of aviation.

Wilbur and Orville Wright constructed a flying machine! They understood the basic principles that convey the jets across our skies even today. The wings of an aircraft are shaped in a way that lowers the air pressure above it so that the air pressure from below the wing creates a force that lifts it.

The real designer of the physics the brothers used is the Lord. He is the Creator. He has also opened a door from above so that those who have faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, are lifted into His saving love. Jesus said, "I am the door. By me, if any man shall enter in, He shall be saved and go in and out and find pasture"

Through faith in Christ we are afforded the wings of the morning that lift us into eternal salvation and blessing. "They that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint" Is. 40:31.

Wilbur and Orville Wright supplied the earliest publishing service for the United Brethren Church, and one of them successfully campaigned for local Huntsville man Fermin Hoskins to become the Bishop of the UB Church.
