DW Baseball standing in fifth place

FINLEY–A plague of errors were felt in Dayton-Waitsburg Wolfpack's losses to the River View Panthers here last week, the home team winning 17-1 and 16-1 as Panther pitchers threw no-hitters in both contests.

Dayton-Waitsburg is in fifth place with a 2-8 Eastern Washington Athletic Conference record, 5-12 overall. At the top of the heap is River View (7-1, 16-2), with TriCities Prep in second (6-2, 11-4), Warden in third (5-3, 11-7), and Columbia-Burbank in fourth (6-4, 8-11).

The Wolfpack hosts second-place TriCities Prep this Friday, May 5, at the Waitsburg diamond, first pitch getting underway at 3 p.m.

"We'd have to beat TriCities Prep twice to have any chance," said Head Coach Greg Crenshaw. River View is in sixth place in the 2B RPI maintained by the WIAA.

"We'll end with five varsity wins, most likely, and two junior varsity wins," Crenshaw noted. "Nice improvement."

The River View Panthers jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first game and kept rolling, wrapping the fifth inning with six runs and the walk-off mercy-rule win. Klint Kuykendall scored DW's lone run.

In the nightcap, River View blew 10 runs across home plate in the bottom of the first then tacked a few runs here and there for the 16-1 win. Levi Boudrieau scored DW's run.

The defense struggled, committing seven errors in the first game, 13 in the second.

Colfax hosted the Wolfpack for a non-league doubleheader on April 25, allowing just three hits over the two five-inning games but shutting the Wolfpack out in both contests.

In the first game, Klint Kuykendall managed a hit against Bulldog pitchers, then he zeroed in on two more pitches to hit safely two times in the second game.

Again, the defense fought errors, making seven in the first game, 11 in the nightcap.
