Susie Bowles resigns from Pomeroy City Council

The Pomeroy City Council accepted the resignation of Susie Bowles.

POMEROY–The Pomeroy City Council accepted the resignation of Susie Bowles, authorized a grant application, and discussed tree removal at their meeting on May 9.

Susie Bowles resigned as City Councilwoman, effective May 12. Her position will be on the next ballot to fill out the remaining time of her term. The council has 90 days to appoint an interim councilman to fill the time between May 12 and the election. Councilman Mike Cassetto thanked Bowles for her service on the council.

The council discussed options to fund the booster pump project, estimated to cost 1.5 million. They passed resolution 2023-02, authorizing a grant application to the United States Department of Agricultural rural development program. The council also authorized the use of American Rescue Plan Act funding for the project, and accepted Keller and Associates engineering firm's offer of assistance with the application.

Jack Peasley, of the South East Washington Economic Development Association (SEWEDA), offered $5,000 to be used for tree removal if the work is done by the end of SEWEDA's fiscal year on June 30.

Mayor Paul Miller announced the appointment of Alaina Colbert as 2023 pool manager, and that the Pomeroy Summer Market will be held on the second and fourth Wednesdays from June to September.
