POMEROY–The Garfield County Public Health District announced a new free cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) class program, discussed how Covid-19 cases will be handled, and announced the location of this summer's cooling center at their meeting on May 15.

The Garfield County Fire District No. 1 will hold a free CPR class on the last Saturday of every month, sponsored by the Public Health District. The classes are budgeted until the end of the year at $4,000, when the project will be evaluated.

Since the Federal public health emergency declaration ended on May 11, Covid-19 cases in Washington State will be classified and handled as communicable disease cases. Positive cases will still be reported to the Public Health District, but most of the mandatory reporting has ceased. Wastewater testing is still available to evaluate disease prevalence in a community or organization.

The Fire District's administration room will be used for a cooling center this summer.
